Major £5.3m project to improve Bursledon Road on track to enter next phases

Work on the major one year project to improve the A3024 Bursledon Road is progressing well. Once complete, the project will see a number of changes to improve journey times for all road users. This includes the creation of a substantial part of the SCN3 Eastern Cycle Freeway, improvements to signals to give bus priority through innovative ‘virtual bus lane’ technology and upgraded signals and safety enhancements to junctions.

Work will start on the Hinkler and Carey Road junctions on Monday 22 July with work on Gavan Street starting on Tuesday 23 July.

New Copenhagen style cycleways at Inner Avenue now open

The new Copenhagen style cycle paths on either side of Inner Avenue are now open! This new layout is a first for Southampton and is the first step towards creating the SCN5 Northern Cycle Freeway. We will be continuing to improve the SCN5 over the coming months to provide high-quality links for people cycling from the City Centre all the way to Chandlers Ford.
