Concessionary bus travel time restrictions lifted for pass holders

While the current lockdown remains in place, Southampton City Council is removing the time restrictions for concessionary bus travel so people can use their free bus pass to travel without charge at any time of day.

Currently, concessionary travel is available from 9am in Southampton, for all eligible pass holders. However, from Monday 25 January, this restriction will be lifted until further notice, making concessionary bus passes valid at any time Monday-Sunday, on all services operated by City Red FirstGroup, Bluestar, Unlink and Xelabus.

Councillor Steve Leggett, Cabinet Member for Green City and Place, said:

“It is vital that we support the most vulnerable members of our communities to make essential journeys, such as travelling to receive a COVID vaccination when one is offered to them and to access essential shops and services at quieter times. Concessionary bus pass holders will therefore be able to travel on all bus services across Southampton without restriction, giving people complete flexibility.”

It is vital that everyone continues to avoid all non-essential travel during lockdown, wears a face covering on public transport and in public places and practices social distancing.
