Travelling to St Mary’s Stadium
Remember that sometimes it may be easier to let the bus or the train take the strain! If you live locally why not think about walking or cycling to the Stadium to avoid getting caught in traffic.
The My Journey Planner at the top of the page provides information about walking, cycling and public transport options as well as travelling by car.
Saints go marching in!
Walking to the game is a long tradition and by far the best way to soak up the pre-match atmosphere. If you’re lucky enough to live within 2 miles of the ground, then you’re less than 30 minutes away on foot.
Walking to the match means no parking charges, no petrol costs, a guaranteed journey time and the company of your fellow supporters. So if you are fit enough to walk, leave your car keys at home and “go marching in” to St. Mary’s Stadium.
The journey planning tool will show you your best route to the Stadium.
Public transport options within a short walk of the stadium include:
- Bus stops located on Northam Road – less than 3 minutes
- City centre – 10 minutes
- Town Quay ferry terminal – 15-20 minutes walk
- Southampton Central train station – 20 minutes walk
From Southampton city centre follow the brown walking man signs with a football symbol which are located around the city centre to reach St Mary’s Stadium.
Getting on your bike
Cycling is a quick and reliable way to get around Southampton on match days. Most of the city is less than a 20-minute ride from St. Mary’s stadium. For some, arriving by motorcycle is also a good option.
The football club has FREE parking facilities at the Stadium for those who arrive by motorcycle or bicycle. As shown on the plan this can be found alongside the Kingsland Stand that is situated at the rear of the stadium.
If arriving by motorcycle please do so no later than 40 minutes prior to kick-off due to closures. Please note that if you are travelling by motorcycle you should enter via the Stadium South Car Park and liaise with security on entry. These closures will remain in place until approximately 20 minutes after the final whistle.
Southampton Football Club accepts no liability for loss or damage incurred as a result of parking on this site. Riders are advised to exercise all due precautions whilst leaving cycles unattended and to remove all valuables. Please secure your bike using a good quality cycle lock.
Away fans
If you’re travelling from further afield then the bus or train may be a better option for you.
SFC rail and ferry
If you are arriving by train or ferry into central Southampton you can take advantage of the club shuttle bus service that operates on match days from the Central Train Station (Commercial Road side) and the main bus stop at Town Quay Ferry Terminal.
This service commences two hours before the match starts and continues to run until kick-off. The service will also be in operation after the match to take passengers back to the railway station and ferry terminal. The service is not numbered but displays "Stadium Shuttle" on inbound journeys and "Rail/Ferry Shuttle" on outbound journeys. When returning the railway shuttle service leaves from the Commercial Road side of the station outside Blechynden Terrace. The ferry shuttle leaves from the main bus stop at the terminal.
When leaving the stadium, the pick-up point is where Chapel Road meets Granville Street.
Simply show your match ticket or season ticket in order to use the shuttle bus service, which costs £2 for a return journey.
Travelling by bus
Use the My Journey Planner to understand the best way for you to get to the stadium by bus. You may find it easier to get a bus into the city centre and then walk with your fellow supporters the remainder of the way.
Information for individual bus operators that run services to/near the Stadium can be found here.
Travelling by train
The train can be a great option and there are many deals available, particularly for groups, if you book your ticket early. The walk from the Central Train Station takes about 15 minutes and can be great fun with your fellow supporters, alternatively why not make use of the shuttle bus service that takes you directly to the Stadium for only £2.
Use the My Journey Planner at the top of the page to find the best way for you to get to the Stadium by train or alternatively visit national rail enquiries.
Travelling by coach or minibus
There is FREE parking for home supporters who are travelling either by private coach or minibus on the loop of Melbourne Street which is accessed by Granville Street. Please note that Granville Street is restricted by a road closure 1 hour 30 minutes before kick-off.
We advise that the route the coaches/minibuses follow is: Head south on Kingsway/A33, turn left onto St Mary’s Street, slight right onto Chapel Road, take the 2nd left onto Granville Street. Here you will be stopped at the road closure and directed to your parking by club stewards.
Please call the Operations Department on 02380 711966 for further details.
Travelling by car
Southampton Football Club advises all supporters not to travel by private car into the areas surrounding the stadium. Due to parking restrictions operating on a match day we recommend all supporters to use local City Council car parks:
- Bedford Place multi-storey car park – SO15 2QW
- Grosvenor Square multi-storey car park – SO15 2GR
- West Park Road multi-storey car park – SO15 1AP
- Marlands multi-storey car park – SO15 1BA
- Eastgate multi-storey car park – SO14 3HH
If you do choose to travel by car please help to reduce congestion before and after the match by car sharing.

Before setting off, please be aware that Southampton Football Club’s ticket selling policy does not permit ‘babes in arms’ on matchdays and will therefore not admit supporters with children below the age of 18 months in any section of the ground.
Please note: The Park and Ride service that functioned in previous seasons is no longer in operation.
Travelling by rail
Use The Journey Planner at the top of this page or national rail enquiries to understand the best way for you to get to the Stadium by train.
The nearest train station to St Mary’s Stadium is Southampton Central Railway Station (SO15 1AL) which is only a 20 minute walk away. The journey planner also shows you the easiest way to walk from the Station to the Stadium.
On the cross roads where Civic Centre Road and New Road meet, if you turn right onto Above Bar Street you will find Yates (public house) where visiting supporters are accepted entry.
Follow the signs with a walking man on a brown background with a football symbol which are situated in different locations around the City Centre to reach St Mary’s Stadium.
There is an option to use the bus stop and taxi rank outside the train station. If you are catching a bus you will require either the 8A (First Bus) or 18 (Bluestar) which will pick you up at Bus Stop SA.
Travelling by coach or minibus
There is free parking for away supporters who are travelling either by official supporters coaches, private coaches or minibus on Britannia Road (SO14 5FP). Please note although Britannia Road is restricted by a Road Closure 1 hour 30 minutes before kick-off you can still gain access to this area. We advise that coaches/minibuses enter via the roundabout where Marine Parade meets Britannia Road.
We advise all away supporters to board their coach or minibus immediately after the final whistle. This will assist Southampton Football Club in releasing the road closure as soon as deemed safe to get you on your way home as quickly and safely as possible.
