Walk with Wheels Week for Early Years Settings

Walk with Wheels Week for Early Years Settings

Looking for ways to get your families more active and healthy and help them achieve their ten minutes walking a day? Then why not encourage more families to walk, run, scoot or cycle to your early years setting, some or part of the way? Entering the challenge gives one of your families a chance to win a day out in Hampshire and you a chance to win a Scooterpod.

The challenge

To get as many children as possible walking, running, scooting or cycling to and from school every day from 21-25 May 2018. The early years setting with the highest average number of children travelling actively will win a Scooterpod. Everyone participating will receive a My Journey sticker and five lucky families with the highest number of active travel journeys that week will win a voucher for a family day out to Marwell Outdoor Activity Centre.

What does your early setting need to do?

To register and receive your challenge pack, simply sign up online by Friday 5th May 2018. Once we’ve received your registration, you will receive the following a few weeks before the challenge;

  • A PDF flier to email to parents to let them know about the challenge,
  • An A3 poster which you can print out and display at school, and
  • A sheet for each class to record their active travel count for the five days.

All you need to do is ask your staff to record which children travelled actively each morning. Then fill in the summary sheet with your results and email it back to the School Travel Planning Team  the following week so we can announce the winners!

We will be sharing challenge photos and successes throughout the week on Twitter and Facebook #walkwithwheels. Good luck!
