Schools’ Clean Air Campaign Competition
This year the Hampshire County Council Travel Planning Team has been working in partnership with district Environmental Health Departments in Basingstoke, Eastleigh, Fareham and Gosport, Havant, New Forest, Rushmoor and Southampton to run an air quality project in selected schools and colleges. Teams of students used diffusion tubes to compare the levels of nitrogen dioxide associated with vehicle exhausts at different locations around their school/college grounds. The teams were then asked to draft a clean air campaign plan that would promote active and sustainable travel. The teams were given the incentive of winning a ‘donutting’ session for a team of 12 pupils for the best plans, kindly donated by Active Nation Aldershot and Active Nation Southampton.
Well done Alverstoke Junior School in Gosport, Cherrywood Primary School in Farnborough, St Mark’s Primary School in Basingstoke, Purbrook Junior School in Havant and Wildern School in Eastleigh who entered great campaign plans for competition!
Congratulations go to Alverstoke Junior School, the winning school from south Hampshire who will be visiting the Alpine Snowsports Centre in Southampton and St Mark’s Primary School the winner in north of the County, who will be visiting the Alpine Snowsports Centre, Aldershot.
