How Sports Premium Funding can be used to encourage active travel on the school run

Schools across Southampton can use the Sports Premium Funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. This includes using the premium to build capacity and capability within your school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years with the aim of increasing the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.

Part of this is embedding physical activity into the school day through active travel to and from school, active playgrounds and active teaching that can encourage this lasting behaviour change. This means you could use the funding on the active travel measures below:

  • Park & Stride maps and postcode mapping
  • Road Safety Stickers on Wheelie Bins
  • Walk Once a Week (WOW)
  • Scooter and cycle storage
  • Scooter training
  • Balanceability
  • Bikeablity
  • Dr Bike
