Bike It for Secondary Schools

What is Bike It?

Bike It was invented by the charity Sustrans to create an active and sustainable travel culture in the school community, to improve health and well-being and to reduce carbon emissions and congestion. It is all about helping young people get fit and healthy by teaching them the skills they need to cycle and responsibly.

How can Bike It help your Secondary School?

Our Bike It officer will talk and listen to parents, teachers and young people about any barriers they may have. Then run a programme of school projects, training and events to get the whole school and community actively travelling together. When working with a school our Bike It officer can typically achieve:

  • Increase the level of regular of cycling
  • Reduce the number of young people travelling to school and college by car – with a shift to active travel modes or use of public transport
  • Create a culture of cycling at project schools that can be sustained once the officer has departed
  • Raise awareness of the benefits of active travel.
